Due to a warm climate influenced by the Gulf Stream providing favourable growing conditions Dumfries & Galloway boasts some of the most stunning gardens in Scotland.

Whether tropical, walled, formal, on the coast or inland, each garden has something unique to offer the visitor, providing a heady feast for the senses.

Castle Kennedy Gardens, with romantic views of ruined castles, is famous for its fabulous displays of rhododendrons and azaleas while Logan Botanic Garden has palm trees and tree ferns amongst its collection of unusual trees and shrubs, many from the Southern Hemisphere.

Threave House at Threave Garden an ideal end point to the Estate walk
Closer to our base in Castle Douglas is Threave Garden owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Truly a garden for all seasons from its springtime show of over 200 varieties of daffodil through summer’s herbaceous displays to autumn’s stunning colours Threave is worth a visit at any time.

With around 25 different gardens and the many specialist nurseries in the region to provide inspiration for garden lovers, there is the opportunity to stock up on some rare and unusual plants.

Around 50 private gardens also have an open day as part of Scotland's Garden Scheme.

Including arrangement of accommodation to suit your budget, we can design a garden tour holiday route to enable you to tour some of Dumfries & Galloway’s gardens and nurseries, with other places of interest included.
