Castle Douglas, our base is themed as a food town with several restaurants, hand made chocolateshop, toffee shop with old fashioned sweets in jars and a brewery amongst many other food related businesses.

To show case the variety of locally produced food and drink, the region has a Flavour Fortnight to celebrate the numerous food related businesses in the region.
Galloway Holidays offer to arrange a holiday break in the region to incorporate a tailor-made 'food and drink tour' during your stay to suit your interests.
We list 2-day tours at present, but these can be extended with additional days.

Itinerary
You arrive at your accommodation in Castle Douglas 'food town' (we can also arrange hotel accommodation). We meet you and provide a pre-tour briefing with the Trail tour info pack including places of interest on your route. We advise and book a restaurant for your evening meal.
We will have already ascertained if you have particular food and drink interests and where possible will have re-designed the tour route to suit as far as possible. At this stage we only provide outline tour information.
Day One takes you on a scenic route to new farm foodshop and tea room which provides already popular local and organic food. You will then have the opportunity to look around a scenic village with three outstanding attractions including an abbey and an award winning tea room.
You will have options of different places to have lunch, again which we will have discussed with you and made a booking if required, - from a 'below stairs' costume museum tea room to a nearby 3 gold star rated country house hotel restaurant.
Continuing on your scenic route you have the opportunity to stop and look around places of interest with again, after a short walk option, several options to recover with afternoon tea.
You can visit other food related places before returning to Castle Douglas to browse the food related shops there or even visit the Sulwath brewery for a refreshment.
Day Two - After a sumptuous breakfast, today is a longer distance route and can be altered to suit your departure route if not staying another night in the same accommodation.
You drive on a scenic route along the Galloway Kite Trail beside Loch Ken where you have the choice one two excellent tea rooms, one being old fashioned with china crockery and cakestands! We provide short walk locations if desired to ensure you keep your appetite.
You arrive at a picturesque and peaceful small town at the centre of three glens where you have different options for lunch, either a mostly organic popular tea house or hotel restaurants nearby.
A drive with walk options at the top of a cul-de-sac glen are available at a recently completed environmental sculpture site before continuing to the next river valley where, as well as food-related places in and around the local small town, an imposing castle open to the public with a fascinating kitchen tea room is an interesting place to visit and expertience the country park.
If returning to Castle Douglas area we suggest a visit to a recently completed 'vibrant food hub which provides the very best of local food that is available in Dumfries and Galloway.
If not having purchased food to take home during your tour, this old farmhouse centre provides you with the option.

Itinerary
This two-day guided tour follows a similar route to the self-guided tour. You have the advantage of a guide who knows all the food and other places of interests along the way.
If after your welcome meeting there are specific places you have an interest in, we will hopefully be able to amend the tour accordingly to allow you to visit them.
